Briefing observations of teaching practice

To be able to complete this unit, I will need to complete 3 observations:

  • One of my peer
  • One by my peer
  • One by my tutor

For the observation process, I need to do pre-observation form (OB1) and observation report (OB2) for each observation

OB2 should include a response from the person you have observed

6 forms altogether:

OB1 – https://moodle.arts.ac.uk/mod/resource/view.php?id=732284

OB2 – https://moodle.arts.ac.uk/mod/resource/view.php?id=732285

It is about the way you engage in the process rather than the grade or feedback you get about your teaching. Even though I am nervous about the process, it is a good learning opportunity to get feedback.

You will need to inform the students that the session will be observed – it is an observation of teaching, but will also look at aspects like student engagement and interaction.

Need to let your line manager know as well – if you are co-teaching, let the other staff know and the role of the observer needs to assess the dynamic differently as well. When there are two people teaching, it is a shared and collaborative process – it involves navigating who is leading, who is supporting and how can both or multiple people’s strength be utilised to give the students the best learning experience.
